HGTV Beach Flip Master Bedroom

by Lucy Farmer July 08, 2015

Wow, I can’t believe we are on Beach Flip on HGTV!! Daphney and I auditioned for the show last August and call back after call back, we found out in December we would be leaving our families in February for two months! Needless to say, they weren’t too happy. It felt like something we would regret NOT doing, so we went for it!!

At first it seemed like renovating the Master Bedroom in 4 days would be so hard. Looking back on it now, that was cake!! Daphney and I took on the challenge with a gusto and knew immediately what we would do with this room. Planking walls is so trendy right now and we knew that using the beautiful grays of the gulf of Mexico as our inspiration, we had to bring those gorgeous colors and textures inside! We used Gray Owl by Benjamin Moore on the walls and Dover White by Sherwin Williams for the ceiling and trim. Bringing in pops of coral, teal and red with accessories from Joss & Main added a fun mixture to brighten up the room! We also used rope to bring in texture and give it a nautical feel.

Speaking of Joss & Main, they have a section on their website dedicated to the furniture and accessories used on Beach Flip’s first episode! You can shop the looks!

I love to use old, salvaged pieces and incorporate them into renovations and new homes. We were limited on resources and using the no. 2 pine 1 x 6’s gave us that vintage look we wanted. The biggest problem with using that grade of wood is that it’s not even or straight! We had to use a lot of nails and strength to get them even! It was a lot harder than we thought, but loved the way it turned out! Granted, that’s the reason we had to hire help to change out our trim. Thank goodness we were able to use our resources and finish the challenge early!

We would love to hear what you thought about our room and if you are interested, you can vote online! You can virtually tour the four master bedrooms and let HGTV know which room you like the best!

Daphney and I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything. Knowing this would be one of the hardest things we have ever done together, we knew we had to be positive. We would wake up each morning and find a positive quote to say out loud and know that we could make it through each day. We missed our families, we were tired and we only had each other to make sure we didn’t crack. There were times when we were ready to throw in the towel, jump off the balcony or just run away! We hung in there and made it through the entire 8 weeks and know we have done our best. We faced challenges that we thought were impossible, but we conquered them.

The next seven weeks is going to be a blast watching each week’s challenge. I hope you will join in the fun and let us know what you think each week! You can follow us on our social media pages. We will be live tweeting during each episode! Follow Daphney on Twitter at @daphneymassey and my Twitter is @lucysinspired. Hashtag with us, too!

When Someone Walks into My Workshop
When Someone Walks into My Workshop

It's funny really. They come to the front door and walk into my open concept living area that's full of light and just kind of take in all the architectural accents that are in and about the room. Then I escort them downstairs.
