Day 2 Goal Setting 2019

by Lucy Farmer October 19, 2022

First of all, congratulations on your achievements and lessons learned in 2018>

Can you believe it's 2019? I'll be 47 this year. Remember the song We're Gonna Party Like it's 1999? Y'all, 1999 was 20 years ago. Holy Crap!! The song came out in the year 1982. I was 10. I loved Prince and in 1989 I was on the brink of graduating from high school and couldn't wait for 1999 to come around so we could sing that song in that year. That was 20 years ago!! Emma will be 20 years old this year. I have a daughter that will be 20 years old. I'm freaking out a little.

When I look back on where I've been in the last 20 years, I can't believe all that I've accomplished. I raised an almost 20 year old, an almost 17 year old, I've created several companies from helping kids celebrate their birthdays in costumes to a jewelry company that in the year 2017 did over $250k and I will be married 23 years. The best news is that according to World Bank, a woman in the United States will live to 78.6 years old. I have around 31 more years on this earth!! That feels like a long time to accomplish a lot of things.

Did you throw down on paper all of the things you have done in the last year? I hope you did it without caution. I call it a brain dump. You may have things on there that seem insignificant, I hope you do. You may have things on there that are bigger than you could do in a year. I hope you do.

Last year, I laid out 10 things I wanted to accomplish in 2018. That seems like a lot. It was and I didn't accomplish all of them, but I moved toward them. There were somethings that are still a work in progress and some things I will start on in 2019.

The easiest way I find to break down is by thinking about different categories: Health, Friends, Family, Finances, Spiritual/Personal Growth, Work, Recreation. I rate each of those areas 1-10 to see how I want to use the next year to grow in these areas. You don't have to use these categories and I think I will let go of recreation because it always includes friends and family.

I use the Thimblepress Giant Pad. It's great because it's huge, so there's plenty of room to write. I like to use each page as an index card or post it, but in giant form!

I don't fill each sheet full of goals, but ideas. Being a 7 on the Enneagram means I'm an enthusiast. I love to find new things to do and learn. It's hard to reign me in sometimes, which is why I need specific goals! Otherwise, I'm all over the place!

These sheets help me lay it all out and then pare it down into smaller, achievable goals. I can also pin them up around my workspace to see my goals and remind myself what I have to accomplish.

Today's exercise is to break down your brain dump. You can use these categories or create your own. Rate your categories and see where you need to grow or maintain each area and determine what your year will look like!

I want to remind you that we are going to talk about our goals on a monthly basis and if they have to change or if you accomplish one and need to create new ones, we can do that throughout the year! This isn't a one a done exercise. I want to hold each other accountable and help you reach your goals! This is a support group more than anything!

Let me know about getting together toward the end of this month. I would love to try and see you and help you find ways to achieve great success!
